Dear Family and Friends of Lori,
I would like to invite you to a Memorial Service/Candlelight Vigil to honor Lori's memory and God's faithfulness on the one year anniversary of her tragic death. The candlelight vigil portion will be held to generate awareness of the issue of domestic violence.
It will be held on January 10, 2009 at 6:00 p.m. at Holland Heights Christian Reformed Church located at 836 East 8th Street Holland, MI 49423. Dress to be outside around a tree that was planted in her memory. If the weather is terrible, we will be in the gym. A time of fellowship and warm beverages will be provided after.
As I do not have all the emails of all the people that may want to attend this, please feel free to forward this email to anyone you feel would have an interest in coming.
Donations in Lori's memory can be made to the “DeKleine Children's Trust” and mailed to PO Box 2034 Holland, MI 49422.

IT'S MOMENTS LIKE THESE, AS TO WHY I LOVE MY WORK WITH MIOIDV :)
I walked to the post office today, to pick up that certified letter that I thought might be the court's decision on the November 24th provisional order. NOT. The letter was from Alltel regarding a complaint I had filed with them. Sigh. So I am still in a holding pattern.
While I was out and about, I decided to head over to Walgreens and stock up on Christmas candles at their 75% Christmas clearance sale. Figure if the ex has the electricity shut off [as he has in the past], than at least I will have candles for light, eh.
So I was in this crowded aisle with all these other women, grabbing all these clearance items, when one of the women turned to me...out of everyone else jammed in that aisle...and remarked, "is this ever cute," as she held up this huge Pooh Bear and Tigger snow globe for me to look at.
Before I go any further, let me explain about Pooh Bear and Tigger. Pam Aukerman, who was murdered by her ex-husband, Officer Kevin Brainard [Plainwell Michigan PD] on November 4, 2007, collected Pooh Bear and Tigger items. Pam even had Pooh Bear and Tigger Christmas ornaments and the Pooh Bear and Tigger Christmas village.
Immediately after Pam's murder, the Brainard family gained access to Pam's and Kevin's home and took everything out of the house...including all of Pam's belongings. The Aukerman's had not one item of their sister/daughter. And to make matters worse, one of the Brainard's would often post comments on the Pam Aukerman site, about the Pooh Bear and Tigger items of Pam's that they had taken from the house, after Pam's murder.
Well today, before I left for the post office, I called and chatted with Jen Aukerman [Pam's sister] and Jen was telling me how hard of a Christmas she had without her sister...and the other difficulties they are still facing with the Brainards in regards to settling Pam's estate. You know, my heart just went out to Jen...and what makes it so frustrating for me, is that as Jen's advocate I can't just get in my car and drive up to be with her through these rough times, because [ahem] according to the ex, the ex's attorney, and the court, I don't deserve a vehicle.
So I was feeling like I was really letting Jen down by not being there for her and knowing how hard Christmas is for her without her sister...and wishing that broke ass me could do something...just anything...to brighten her mood just a little bit.
And now, here I am standing in this crowded aisle at Walgreens with this woman showing me of all things, a Pooh Bear and Tigger Christmas globe...what are the chances?
I grabbed the last snow globe off the shelf as I told the woman about Pam's murder...Pam's love of Pooh Bear and Tigger...and the significance of this snow globe to her sister.
When I got home, I called Jen and told her about the snow globe that I had purchased for her...and how I would have never picked it up, if this stranger in the store had not talked to me. "You know Jen, it was as if Pam was taping me on the shoulder and saying, 'Hey, I want that...'."
So now, Jen now has a Pooh Bear and Tigger Christmas decoration, that Jen and I would like to believe that Pam herself picked out ;)

Christmas poem for Pam
Pam Aukerman
Christmas 2008
The holiday season is upon us once again, though are christmases will never be as we once knew. There is a void now that cab never be filled no matter how hard we try. Though we must carry on we will miss you, some tears will fall, thoughts of you will be strong. Past christmas memories of you will be strong and may bring a smile, of those beautiful memories and wishing all was the way it should be. You are by our sides. As we carry on this holiday season, you will be in our hearts and souls Thru all, the candles we light for you, Each snow flake that falls each gift we wrap, each carol sung, in all the lights on our trees. In the christmas season and prayers in the sparkle of your childrens eyes. In every memory of you we treasure and christmases past. You are and always are a part of our christmas celebration just in a new and different way. So this season as you celebrate in heaven smile your beautiful smile, sing and dance among the angles. You are loved, we are with you as you are with us.
All our love,
Mom and Dad
Kyle and Kayla
Jen, David, and Peggy
The children
Granny and Grandpa
And of course Nanny
