The Strength of A Woman

Women have strengths that amaze men.
They bear hardships and they carry burdens, but they hold happiness, love and joy.
They smile when they want to scream.
They sing when they want to cry.
They cry when they are happy and laugh when they are nervous.
They fight for what they believe in.
They stand up to injustice.
They don't take 'no' for an answer when they believe there is a better solution.
They go without so their family can have.
They go to the doctor with a frightened friend.
They love unconditionally.
They cry when their children excel and cheer when their friends get awards.
They are happy when they hear about birth or a wedding.
Their hearts break when a friend dies.
They grieve at the loss of a family member, yet they are strong when they think there is no strength left.
They know that a hug and a kiss can heal a broken heart.Women come in all shapes, sizes and colors.
They'll drive, fly, walk, run or e-mail you to show how much they care about you.
The heart of a woman is what makes the world keep turning.
They bring joy, hope and love.
They have compassion and ideals.
They give moral support to their family and friends.
Women have vital things to say and everything to give.
However, if there is one tiny flaw in women,
It is that they forget their worth.

I received this poem about women and I started crying. It is still so hard for me to believe that women are treated with such callousness and disregard. No wonder women forget what their worth. We live in a society that is appalled by domestic violence, yet when it’s visible society doesn’t really want to see it.
My best friend was murdered one year ago by her police officer husband in front of her two year old daughter. Pam didn’t stand a chance. She was turned away by two local domestic violence agencies because she was told that it would be her word against a police officer. She had also gone to marriage counseling and told her side of the story but nobody seemed to hear her. On Sunday November 4th 2007 she finally confided in a coworker about the abuse she had suffered for the last three years. She stated that Kevin had choked her on their wedding night and then went running down the middle of the road with their seven month old daughter in his arms. Pam had to call his parents who lived down the block to come and get him out of the road. When Pam came home from work that night Kevin murdered her in front of their almost two year old daughter.
Pam’s murderer then committed suicide. Their daughter was found crying on her parents bed with both of her parents dead in the hallway. She is now an orphan because of selfishness.
In the aftermath of our loved one being murdered we were subjected to verbal abuse from the murders family and friends even the community kept saying this was the murder victims fault that she was shot to death in her own home. Pam drove him to do this. One family member even when as far as to say she deserved it.
What kind of message does this send to women everywhere. It tells us we are not worth as much as a man. Kevin Brainard was a murder and he is being portrayed as a hero. His nephew even victimizes Pam’s son about how is uncle was a hero. Kyle and Kayla no longer have a mother because she was shot to death by a hero. We as a society should be ashamed to call this man a hero after he murdered a woman. Would the courts have hailed him as a hero for murdering a woman. Ken DeKleine of Holland Michigan was not hailed a hero when he murdered his wife. He is serving a life sentence for murder. His children do not have a mother to love them any longer because he took that from them. He is not hailed a hero. So why is Kevin Brainard hailed a hero when he did the same thing. Is it because he took the coward’s way out? Who burys a murderer in his police uniform and protests because he doesn’t get a fire fighter burial, a last ride on the fire truck. What kind of community does this? Plainwell and Otsego Michigan get that honor.
